I love it and wish it were more usable. It was my grandmother's name, so I have a big soft spot for it. The meaning is lovely too. I hope it comes back into fashion soon.

I do really like the meaning and the nn Millie. Imo it does sort of remind me of an old lady name, but I honestly do like a lot of names that are considered to be "old ladyish". It's not bad, but not one I'd personally use.

I don’t mind it at all. But I feel a consonant-heavy name like Mildred, Judith, or Daphne needs to be balanced out with a very airy, melodic complement.

Very pleasing.

It reminds me of The Worst Witch by Jill Murphy. The Worst Witch Mildred Hubble was a likeable character though. Mildred had two friends Maud Spellbody and Enid Nightshade.

It’s not as terrible as it’s made to be but I still don’t like it.

I love it in a weird sort of way. I love the nickname Millie. I’m not sure if I have the guts to use Mildred as a first name though.

I don’t care for the sound of it. It ranks up there with Bertha and Helga. Millicent has a prettier sound to it.

It was my beloved grandmother's name. She was Mildred Ruth. I'd use Ruth to honor her before I'd use Mildred. She was a wonderful person, but that doesn't make her name wonderful. Mildred is just... it's so heavy and dusty and glum.

I adore it. The meaning is beautiful, and it's a delectation to utter the name.

Not one that I'd ever consider, but a whole lot better than Millicent, though Mélisande is good.

I love that it separates visually into 'mild red' and that it means 'gentle strength' and even the 'dred' part just seems funky to me.

It's a little musty, but so is a forest during autumn when it's raining, which is kind of my image of it. Wholesome, overall.

It sounds like the name of an unattractive milk maid. The "dread" sound isn't appealing either.

I suppose the -dred part might sound a bit rough but to me it's a better way to get the nn Millie than Millicent
