Today's name of the day is Geneviève. WDYT?
If I were French or from a Francophone place, I'd be tempted to use this name, with this pronunciation (zhawhn-vee-YEV); but as it stands Genevieve (JEN-uh-veev) is far more practical. That said I think it's absolutely lovely, as a first or middle name.

If the child I am pregnant with is a girl, she will be Genevieve. It was my grandmother's name and is my eternal favorite.

Genevieve with the American pronunciation is my grandmother's name and my favorite girl's name.

I like both pronunciations. It's a really pretty name! I bet it's going to be popular. People like it a lot as a middle name I think.
That said, I do know a Genevieve who is just called Gen. This is I think not worth it, because it's the same as Jen, but worse.

Genevieve was one of my top names like 10 years ago when I got more into names. I first saw it while browsing hurricane name lists and thought it was really cool and different. It has become too popular and much discussed for my liking, especially on this site. I still like it but I wouldn't call it a huge favorite.

I love it, any pronunciation. I live in a French-speaking area and here, it feels older. It is very saintly. I just really love the -vieve/-viève part. It's so soft and yet elegant without being stuffy. There is something whimsical and fairytale-esque about it, a quality that I love.

I trust that it might be nice for francophones. To me this name is the epitome of trying too hard. It wants so badly to be elegant and sophisticated. Or at least it's what some people want from it and these people ruined Genevieve for me.
