[Opinions] Wolf

Love the name Wolf! It’s one animal name that I love and would even consider using. Wolfie is such a cute nn for when he’s little! I don’t see it becoming trendy here in Australia. I dislike Wolfgang, it’s the “gang” part of the name that irritates me. Wolfgang would be amazing for an Irish Wolfhound!
It's so ... wildmannish. Characterish - in an empty imagey way. Of course it could become trendy. Like a white graphic sweatshirt with an image of a howling wolf framed by a dreamcatcher.
It could be a cool name on *some* guys, but on most of the men I've met it would not seem very cool - I think it'd seem sort of dry and droll. Like Creighton or Tripp or Silver or Hawk or Bear or Fox. So I favor it being a nickname. Wolfgang is very serious but it's not lame ... I'd rather see a Wolfgang who has the option to either accept or decline being called Wolf. Or Wolfie.

Don't like either
I imagine it would get some Hollywood use, but in general, I think it's not a very good name in English. It sounds like woof, like a dog's noise.
When my husbands oldest child was in nursery around 12 years ago there was a child in her class called Wolf.
I’m not a huge fan of Wolf and would assume it was short for Wolfgang. When I hear Wolfgang my first thought is Mozart. I actually don’t mind Wolfgang but it would not be unusable where I live.
