As everyone else has probably already stated, the pronounciations for these two names would be different from each other. Uh-LAN-uh vs uh-LAYN-uh (For some reason my phone isn't allowing me to copy the 'schwa' part of the text but whatever) As much as I like both names, I would have to go with Alaina. I just think it sounds slightly better and has a more softer, inviting sound to it. Also, as much as I realise that Alaina doesn't seem to have much love going for it, (Many seem to not care for it) it's actually my favorite out of all the variants. Elena is really nice as well (Even with the other various pronounciations) I don't care much for Elaina or any of the others.

"Spellings" makes it look like they sound the same, and they're very different in English. I guess they'd sound similar in French?
I prefer Alana because it's sleeker and simpler. I also like Alanna because of The Song of the Lioness, but I think Alana is more obvious for the pronunciation.
Alaina has a bit of a 90's feel for me, I prefer Elaina (almost sounds the same in my accent, not exactly but close enough that people with those names get confused for each other) because it comes from Elaine and I think that gives it an almost medieval look.

I pronounce these names differently. Alana = uh-LAH-nuh and Alaina = uh-LAY-nuh. I think they’re both nice, but I have a soft spot for Alaina with the nickname Lainey. I also like the spelling Alanna which I think further clarifies the first pronunciation.

I would pronounce these differently - uh-LAH-nuh versus uh-LAY-nuh. I prefer Alana over Alaina.

They are not pronounced the same, are they?Alana is okay but it always makes me think of "anal" and it sounds a bit dull and feels 80s dated.Alaina sounds much prettier but it is a creative spelling of a pronunciation of Elena so I dislike the spelling.I'd go with Elena pr. eh-LAY-na.

Alaina isn't a creative spelling of a pronunciation of Elena. It comes from Alan / Alain influenced by Elaine / Elaina. (Elaine and Elena both come from Helen so they're still related that way, but the main source is Alan). If anything I'd say Alayna and Elayna are the creative spellings of Alaina and Elaina.

As the others have said, these are completely different names to me. I love uh-LAY-nuh spelled Elaina, Alaina, Alayna, etc. I don't care much for uh-LAHN-uh spelled Alana.

Alana looks as if it should be Alan + a, ALuhnuh, and Alaina looks like a typo for Elaina, which is bad enough in itself.I prefer Alannah.

I prefer Alayna - a lane a

It makes the pronunciation clear, which is a big plus.

I read these as different names. Alana as uh-LAH-nah or uh-LAN-uh.
Alaina as uh-LAY-nah. My neighbor’s name is spelled Alayna. I prefer Elena which I’m pronouncing eh-LAY-nah.
