[Opinions] Your Favorite Greek Names?
Hi everyone,
We are hoping for baby #2. DH is of Greek heritage and would like a Greek name, but we're having a hard time agreeing on any that aren't too "out there." Especially boy names! Baby #1's name is Moses, which fits him very well but I don't think we'd want to go any weirder than that. :) A couple parameters:
--DH is Douglas and DS is Moses, so although I gravitate towards masculine -s names, I think we should probably avoid a third.
--Last name is -er so I don't want an -er first name as well.
--I get the idea that DH doesn't care how "Greek" it sounds, as long as it just is of Greek origin.
--Most of DH's male ancestors were named Stephen, but I don't care for it.
Here are some we've liked so far (but not sold on any of them in particular):
Male:
Simon
Orion
Female:
Penelope
Persephone
Echo
Cleo
Iris
Eleni
Corinna (I prefer Corinne but then it's not Greek)
Any suggestions? What Greek names do you like?

I love Simon, and Orion is nice too. A lot of my favorite names are Greek. Some of my favorite Greek boy names are Gregory, Theodore, Philip, Alexander, Nicholas, Cyril, Eugene, Cleopas, Anthony and Leon. I guess no Alexander, Nicholas or Cleopas since they're -s and -er names. I like some other Greek names, but these are the most common ones I like. The other ones can be pretty weird hehe.

Leon was my granddad's middle name! We were very close. I didn't realize it was Greek. Thank you for suggesting that!
You're welcome! And girl's names
Wow you're welcome! Sorry, I forgot to put girl names too. I really love Iris and Penelope! Persephone does have a pretty sound, but you should know it means "destroy and murder" or something like that. That puts me off of it. Eleni and Cleo are nice. I don't like Echo, but it is okay. My favorite Greek female names are Evangeline, Phoebe, Zoe, Leona which I love, and it's like Leon! Barbara, Katherine, Dorothy, Theresa, and I really love the name Eunice too, but I don't know if you'd like it.

I don’t mind Simon. Orion isn’t really my style. For female names, I really like Penelope, Persephone, Cleo and Iris.
How about:
Athena
Aphrodite
Daphne
Evangeline
Olympia
Phoebe
Selena
Theodora
Voula
Alessandro
Apollo
Calix
Demetrius
Elias
Isidore
Sorry I couldn’t find so many boy names, a lot of them end in s.

Too bad, my two favorites Charis and Thais are out of the question then ;)
Simon is the Greek form of a Hebrew name. It feels much more Hebrew than Greek to me and I never cared for the sound. I love Orion, but I guess many people find it too close to Oreos.
Penelope is way too trendy. Persephone is kind of cool but has one of the most awful meanings a name could possibly have. Echo is an invitation for endless teasing even though I do like it. Cleo is nice but kind of trendy. Iris just doesn't sound nice to me. Eleni is very mainstream in Greece, I think every other woman in Greece is named Eleni. I still like it. Corinna is boring.
Out of yours I'd choose Orion and Eleni. Or Persephone if meanings don't matter to you (I personally couldn't bring myself to bestow a name with the meaning "murder", "destroy" on my baby girl. But I know that meanings don't matter to everyone and I'd like to meet a little Persephone).
How about:
Thalia
Kali (or Kale, from Greek meaning "beautiful")
Athena
Danae
Melina
For boys I also like Alexis but it ends in -s. So I'd go with Orion.

Orion, I just realized...
that in English it seems to be pronounced o-RY-on. I dislike that, it sounds like "Oh, Ryan" :( I pronounce it the Greek way oh-ree-on.
