It does smack of toxic hypermasculinity. “No way is MY boy gonna be a sissy! I’m giving him the most manly sporty sport sport name I can think of. The only activities we’ll ever do together must either include throwing a ball or hooking a fish. I’ll disown him if he even looks at a doll or hints that he has feelings.”
But to be fair this type of dad would only parent his girl if she wanted to fish or play ball, too. So who knows.
