Sounds like Flander which makes me think of Flander Flounder which was some children's character... anyway it's fishy.

Good name for a panda from northern Belgium. On a human ... a few decades back there was a provincial-level cricketer here in South Africa who was known by the name of Lorry. Not Laurie. And this was to honour a member of his family who had fought in Lorraine during one of the World Wars, not sure which. I'd expect a human with a name anything like Flanders to be similarly named. And, as such, I would respect it, though I dislike the uber-casual spelling.
