Help[Facts] What is the original spelling of HAY-lee? (more)
I would really like to find out as Hayley is one of my favorites.
1) This site says that it's Hayley and I tend to believe that because it is closely related to the meaning (hay clearing) and makes the most sense to me. Also Hayley Mills was the first namesake. She was named after her mother Mary Hayley Bell and originally came from a surname, it has apparently, been passed down in her family for generations. No doubt the name first became popular because of her.
2) Hayley seems to be by far the most common spelling in the place it originated from (England).
but I'm kind of wondering because there is a place name (Hailey) in England and also Hailey is a surname. And then Haley could also be a candidate.
