[Opinions] Francine
I bet Fran is gonna come back in a decade or two. What do y'all think of this chic version of Frances? Combos, sibs?

How do you pronounce it - with a long ah or a short a? I prefer the short a, but I much prefer Frances to either. This might be partly because the only Francine I've ever known was no recommendation for her name or anything else. Or it might not!

I really don't like any of these Fran- names at all. Honestly, I'm not a fan of most F girls' names. I wouldn't be surprised to see Francis and Francine make a comeback though.

I currently love it a lot, more than Frances.

Much prefer Frances, which I’ve been absolutely loving lately. I love Fran as well, Franny is kind of nice too.I don’t like Francine, it’s dowdy.

I like Francine a lot. It makes me think of Arthur.

Francine is growing on me by leaps and bounds.Part of me agrees with Rox, I think Frances may become more popular, along with stuff like Irene and Vera, but then I think Francine will become the new Frances as the edgier pick.I love Minerva with Francine, either as Minerva Francine, Francine Minerva, or as sisters of Minerva & Francine. I think Francine has enough personality to stand next to Minerva.Other ideas:Francine Louella
Francine Amanda
Francine Lily
Francine Olivia
Francine Melinda
Edwina Francine
Phoebe Francine
Eudora Francine
June Francine
Elva Francine
Opal Francine
Samantha Francineboy using Francine as a middle name is lots of fun

I'm partial to just Frances. But I do like Francine. I confess, I too thought of the "Arthur" books and cartoon. But that's not the worst thing in the world.

Me too! Same reason I don't like Arthur - reminds me too much of him and aardvarks in general.

People really do be having associations with that show on this board eh. I haven’t thought about it in years

Sounds nerdy and uptight. I don't care for it.

It always calls to mind some woman with horrible, frizzy, overprocessed hair that looks like a wig that someone's cat found under the bed and dragged around all over the house which has not been vacuumed or dusted lately.

I think Frances has a much higher chance of coming back, and I think it already is, along with stuff like Beatrice and Edith; stylish but probably only for certain demographics.
Francine is much more dated, less "classic" than Frances, and een endings are not currently fashionable.
So no, I don't think Francine is on its way back anytime soon.

Yeah, Frances is SUCH a family name for so many people, I'm sure it will get some use. I think Francine will come along as an undercurrent for people who would normally use Frances but have their eyes on the charts and want to be more chic lol. But the "Fran" syllable will be less abrasive and more uglycute to people, is what I meant.I think -ine names will be back in a decade or two. We've had such an immersion in -ia names for so long that people are going to want to be less international and more specified IMO.

The only een name I can think of offhand that might be called stylish right now is Evangeline, and I know some people say it line or lyn, though I've always thought it was een. (That right there would be reason enough for me to not use it if I liked it. Names with iffy pronunciations are a pain. I'm look at you too, Lucia, even though I like you.)
