[Opinions] Collen
Hi everyone! One of the names on our list is Collin to honor my Great Grandmother Colleen. I want the double L’s since Colleen has two. Anyways I asked my mom what she thought and she suggested Collen which is a real name. However I’m worried if people would pronounce it Call-Len or like Collin (Call-Lin)? It’s a middle name option so it’s not tragic if said both ways but I am gearing towards Call-Lin pronunciation. Also does Collen look girly? I’m not a fan of girly looking names for my boys. TIA!

I'm not sure what you mean by len vs. lin. The final vowel in Colin is a schwa, right? So it would sound the same whether you write it as an i or an e? I like Collen better than Collin, just because Collin makes me think "ok but Colin is nicer" while Collen doesn't immediately make me think of Colin. It does also look more like Colleen, and since it's a middle name it wouldn't matter if people were confused about how to say or spell it.

To be honest, I automatically read the title of this post as "Colleen" so I'm thinking that would happen a lot with Collen. I'd go with Collin personally =)

Call-len or call-in? No difference in my accent. They're both a schwa.Interesting name. I'd pronounce it to rhyme exactly with Pollen. I don't think it looks girly. It does look a little like a boys' name a spunky girl parent might choose though. As it's in the middle I wouldn't worry about pronunciation issues, though this one seems pretty straightforward...

I'd pronounce it just like Collin. It does not look girly.
