It reminds me of a Meerkat.
As a cutesy childhood nickname, I can see it working, but it feels out of place on an adult. The character called Merricat in "We Have Always Lived in the Castle" was teased quite a bit for multiple reasons. I thought the continued use of her childhood nickname by the towns people and her own family was reflective of how they continued to view her as a child even though she was a young woman. She was very under estimated.
