It was very very overused here about 15 years ago but luckily, that trend has faded with time, although kids are still named it. I don’t care for Marius. Overused and boring, just like Magnus.

Don't really like it

I associate it with Crown Princess Mette Marit's son (Norwegian Royal family, the son doesn't have a title) and the Mariusgenser (a patterned wool sweater).
It sounds very juvenile to me, but that might have to do with that it has been used quite frequently in Norway between 1978 and 2013 (about 200 to 450 newborns per year).

It's not my cup of tea, but it's a solid name.

I love looking at this name but it's strictly in character-only territory for me, because spoken aloud it just doesn't work.

I don't mind Marius at all, but I much prefer Marinus, so Marius would never have a chance with me.

Also, the son of one of DH's cousins is Marius, and he has turned out to be unsatisfactory ... I don't think it's actually spoilt the name for me, but it does make me blink and look again.

Most people will associate it with Les Mis. I also associate it with the Roman general but I'm a history nerd. I don't feel any particular way about it as a name, I don't love or hate it.
