I am sorry, but it actually made me laugh out loud when I saw the thread and I immediately saw the "penis"-part.
Yes, it's pronounced differently but it still looks like penis.
I think it might be usable as Penniston. Even though that makes me laugh too.

It's like Aniston and Pendleton would seem to me, and I'm not a fan of those as 1st names.
I wouldn't fixate on the penis part (I pronounce them differently and only noticed with prompting), unless people pointed it out incessantly, which maybe they would.

Not sure why you'd even bother. Now, probably some person will pretend there isn't a genital organ in the name and burble on about how it has such an 18th-century to the manor born vibe to it. But they'll be faking it.
In the early nineties there was a singer called CeCe Peniston. I'm not sure how her first name was spelled, actually. Her one hit I remember was something like "We Got a Love Thing."

It makes me think of CeCe Peniston, so it's very "fabulous early 90s gay club" to me. The fact that it contains the word "penis" seems to work with it rather than against it, because of that association.

However, while it's far from my taste, the nn Penny is okay to me. I knew a family whose surname was Penny and the eldest son was often called by his surname by classmates. I don't think it was a preference thing, but more of a "we're British so we address those we're not close with by their surnames half the time" type of thing. Penny can go masculine for me.
Its the -ton that is unappealing for me, personally. I hardly even like Ashton and I could be wrong, but I think Ashton is the only name I have with that suffix that I ish-like
