What do you guys think of the name Jay? It’s (likely) derived from jaybird, meaning “jaybird”. What do you think?

I actually really like it. If anything I prefer it to Jayden. I think it can work well as a name on it’s own. What about you? I have pretty good associations with it. (Jay from the KubzScouts - If you know who he is kudos to you) In my opinion it’s amazing as a middle name too.

I guess it has a little bit of "bro" vibe about it, like Jared or Drew but older. IDC. I still like it.

I once knew a boy whose family called him what I assumed was J.T. After several months or possibly even a year, I learned he was Jay T. He had an Uncle Jay so I suppose the family added the T as differentiation. All that is to say the name Jay can be a bit confusing.

I've only encountered it as an initial name, a nn for James or Jonathan or similar. Or, most often where I live, with P as a nn for Jean-Pierre, which is often used in South Africa, mostly but not only by Afrikaans families with French ancestry. A lot of JP people walk the streets ...

It's cool, I like it. I think of blue jays and a person who is very laid back. I have good associations like Jay from Ninjago. It's nice as a middle name. Nice as a nickname for James if you don't like Jim or Jayna as well.

As much as I love birds, the Blue Jay pic made me smile. I dislike this name. It's not really my style. It's better as a middle name, but even I wouldn't use it.

I have an uncle named Jay! It’s very wearable, I think. Not super crazy, but I only know of that one person with the name. I like the bird meaning; goes along with Rhen.

I like it! It has a pleasant sound, and it feels boyish and fun. I'd probably more like it as a middle with maybe a more elaborate first, but I'd love to meet a Jay.

It's kinda "meh" for me. I've also seen it used on girls, so I think that it's okay for women, too. While the Jaybird is cute, I prefer it as a nickname for names starting with J. I don't have any associations with it other than a female character in a children's book when I was little. I do know who Jay from the KubzScouts is, I used to watch him, but now I'm disinterested.
