[Opinions] Names from Video Games
I have heard and seen a lot of people name their kids after movie or tv show characters, or famous actors. However, I feel like I don’t as often see names that became favorites due to games. I see them used a lot on pets but less so on babies. So, I was wondering:1. Is there a name you’d use because of a video game character?
2. Have you ever met someone named after a game character?
3. What are some names you might have loved if they WEREN’T heavily associated with a game (for example, Zelda). Please don’t feel the need to answer all 3 if you don’t want!!! Also, when I say names from video games, they don’t necessarily have to be unique to the game. If you liked the name Arthur more so after playing Red Dead Redemption, that counts as well! Also sorry if anything is worded oddly

1. Nah. Well, not at the moment. Maybe if the character had a big influence on me. 2. Yes. There is a little girl named Zelda after the game character.3. Yeah, I would like Zelda more. Same with the name Elsa from Frozen which isn't a game. They do have a 3DS Frozen Game that my cousin had in 2014, I believe, though.

I started loving Joel because of The Last of Us.

Ugh, The Last of Us is my most favorite game EVER. I liked the name Joel before that but I'm sure I've grown to like it more because of him as well.

I think I went a bit off topic here in terms of your questions, sorry about that:I'd love to meet someone named after a video game, but I don't think I ever have. I've met people named after other fictional characters (an Indi, an Ezri, a Morgana, a Sterling...). I did meet a Gaia but I don't know if she was named after Gaia from one of the games that feature that name. I do know that her mother's engagement ring was three diamonds in that "Triforce" symbol from Zelda so I suspect that Gaia may have nerdy rather than mythological reasons behind her name.I'm a wannabe gamer, so I could see myself using a video game name. Unfortunately I don't actually play many games! I know that I really liked the name Garnet for a long time because of the princess from Final Fantasy 9. In the game you're supposed to change her name so she can live undercover, and I remember I didn't change it because I liked Garnet so much. Also Vivi from that game made me like Viv-names. Vivi was sooooo cute.

I love the idea of people being named after fictional characters, but the problem is that I've never really done a proper playthrough of a game, never really immersed myself enough to get attached to a character or liked one deeply enough that I'd name a kid or even a pet after them. It takes me YEARS to get through a game, if I finish at all, because I don't dedicate hours and hours to it. I'm super casual. Kirby is a name that I might like more if it wasn't heavily associated with a game. I love the little Kirby character but it's so tied to that round pink thing that it's hard to see it as anything else now. I'd maybe name a roomba Kirby.

Zanthia is my #1 choice and has been for years. The Legend of Kyrandia.Misty might count even though I'm more familiar with the Pokemon anime than I am the gen 1 and 2 games. I am, however, very familiar with the gen 3 games - Ruby, Sapphire and Emerald - and the following names I know from there:Roxanne (though my primary association is A Goofy Movie)
Winona
Phoebe (though my primary association is Friends)
Drake
Brooke
Wilton
Rose (though I now have several major associations)
Cyndy (pref spelling Cindy - though my primary associations are Cyndi Lauper and Jimmy Neutron)
Madeline (though I now associate it with a true crime victim)
Isaac (though my first thought would be Isaac Newton and then the middle name of Jimmy Neutron who is partly named after Newton)
LydiaNot that I'm aware of I don't have an opinion on this (I'd use Zelda even if I've never played those games)

There are a several names I've come to like because of video game characters.Eivor - Assassin's Creed: Valhalla
Ezio - Assassin's Creed II
Altair - Assassin's Creed
Bayek - Assassin's Creed: Origins
Aya - Assassin's Creed: Origins
Nilin - Remember Me
Delsin - Infamous: Second Son
Cole - Infamous 1 and 2
Corvo - Dishonored
Aela - Elder Scrolls: Skyrim
Kynareth / Kyne - Elder Scrolls series
Geralt - The Witcher series
Triss - The Witcher series
Cirilla - The Witcher series
Vesemir - The Witcher series
Thane - Mass Effect series
Tali - Mass Effect series
Booker - Bioshock: Infinite
Lightning - Final Fantasy
Leon - Resident EvilI've met some people named after game characters, mostly little kids. Two Aela's! But there are just as many characters with "normal" names and why a parent chose their kid's name isn't exactly a conversation one just has... so who knows how many I've actually met. I can't think of any names I grew to dislike because of a game...

1. Zelda. And Maybe Ayano. I also really like Maxine. (From Life is Strange)2. Only a Zelda. Whether her Parents actually got it from the video game is unknown to me.3. I think the answer to this question would have to be Ayano. The meaning is beautiful to me, Japanese, and interesting. Like Kyoko, or Kaori. It has an interesting flare to it that I don’t see everyday in names. Ayano is also my favorite fictional character. If not at least top 3.HOWEVER. For those who don’t know, Ayano Aishi is a Yandere. (Hence the name of Yandere Simultor) Meaning, she has to kill, torture, blackmail, trick, and ruin relationships for 10 rivals for the love of her life. That’s not even all. She’s basically a lovesick teenage girl. The plot and game itself is actually interesting not to mention has potential. To put the cherry on top, the developer of the game, (Alex) has taken astonishingly long to finish the game, and he spends his money donated on freaking sex dolls, questionable fetishes, and stuff I don’t even want to get into right now. If you want to find out more look him up. Like the art, not the artist, I know. But I don’t think a little girl would appreciate that. The character part is something she can probably look past on. I don’t know, what do you guys think?
