It’s ok for a boy. I think Ambrose sounds feminine.

I've loved Ambrose ever since I had a dream that I had a son named this. He lived in a cave because he studied caves. Makes sense. The combo from my dream was Ambrose Xavier Winter, so that's always been my go-to Ambrose idea.Other suggestions:Ambrose Ivor
Ambrose Elijah
Ambrose Malcolm
Ambrose Alexander - not generally an Alexander fan but this would be handsome
Ambrose Ignatius
Ambrose Algernon - can't resist
Ambrose Percival
Ambrose Leo
Ambrose Mordecai
Ambrose Lucius

All I can think of is Amber Rose. And yes, I've heard of Bierce, and I know it's a guy name. It's still too Amber Rose! Makes me think of perfumed candles.

Reading some of the replies below and the comments for Ambrose, I'm surprised at how many people consider Ambrose feminine. An obvious nn would be Bro.

I like Ambrose, mostly because of Ambrose Bierce.
It's actually made the charts - 958 in 2019, 820 in 2020. It has the same feeling as Desmond (also gaining in popularity) but it gives off a different vibe. Desmond is a cad, Ambrose is a poet.Ambrose Julian

I thought it would be for a girl. Ambrosio is better for a boy.

I can't help but think of Amber which makes it seem like a girl name. I like it though, as soon as I get over the initial Amber though.
