I stumbled across Claribel.
It was used by Shakespeare and in "The Faerie Queene" (as Claribell).

I think some show I watched or heard of had a clown named Claribel. I don't like the name; it sounds dated and stodgy and makes me think of clowns or cows.

I think there are slightly less starchy -bel names to be found tbh. In the US Clarabelle is ordinarily a cow name so that is what it makes me think of. I definitely like some of the more unusual-bel/Belle names in general though, like Mirabelle, Orabelle, Sybelle, Maybelle, Corabelle, Christabelle, etc. A FN MN but I once came across a Melody Belle and I just LOVED it. Have you been exploring the Belle names lately?

I remember from somewhere a children's rhyme featuring Claribel the Cow. Which puts a stop to all human use; and the meaning is almost too much.

It sounds like a posh Southern name, think Clara-Belle, but less obvious. Would work splendidly on a dairy cow.

It's nice but a little too cutesy for me. It seems like a name for a doll or a pet more than an adult woman. I prefer Clara or Mirabel, they have more strength to them.
