I knew one Karen and one Susan "Susie", liked them both.
I'd never use Karen for a daughter because it's become synonymous with petty outrage, but I like that name more than Susan. Karen is tidy and gentle. Susan sounds both too proper and like a dog name (I have come across 3+ dog Susie's, one of them being my sister's). I'd rather compromise and use Sharon.
