[Opinions] Ada
How would you pronounce Ada (as a nickname for Adelaide)? With a long or short A? so like AY-da or add-a?

My instinct is to say it as add-uh.

I say the name Ada as AY-da. I like it as a full name.
I don't feel like it makes enough sense as a nickname for Adelaide.
I could see Aidi(e) "Ay-dee" as a nick for Adelaide, because the Aid syllable is emphasized, but adding an A to that seems artificial to me, esp. since Ada is a name.
Ada "add-a" for Adelaide would not work very well either, IMO, because Addie exists, and it just seems weird, like calling Abigail (even Abagail) "Aba".

I pronounce it add-ah and prefer that pronunciation, though I it is the lesser common choice. Adda would be the spelling I'd pick for that route. I like it both as a stand alone and short for Adelia or Adela.

I’ve only ever heard it pronounced AY-da. I think it’s a lovely name, but prefer it as a full name, rather than as a nn.

I love the name. I would pronounce it AY-da as the only poisonous snake in the uk is an Adder. Pronouncing it the other way would remind me too much of the snake
