[Surname] This one is rare
I was researching names for a book I'm writing, when I came across this last name: Throndsen. It's Irish, and really rare.

Beautiful love it.
I shouldn't have trusted google.
May explain why it's really rare in Ireland.
Throndsen is Danish
Where did you come across it and how did you arrive at that interpretation (that it is Irish?). It seems to be a Norwegian name, or possibly, though less likely I think, an anglicization of Þrándarson.
So, it means "Son of" who then?
Do you remember where you found it?
I often have a hard time tracing my steps when I run into rare names.

Son of Þrándur/Þrándr/Þrondr etc. It's connected with the place name Trondheim, but the meaning is obscure. It could be a contraction of a speculative dithematic name *Þrá-windr, but that doesn't get us very far, as the meaning of Þrá- is also only speculated.
