[Opinions] Re: Adeline
do you say Ada (the name itself, not the nickname) as AH-da or AID-a? I like it more as AH-da but I've only ever heard AID-a. I always thought Adah was legit pronounced that way but apparently it's AID too. Adelyn seems foul to me because it's taken what I think is a beautiful name and cheapened it. But I don't have an actual good reason. It's probably mostly name snobbery, tbh, which I'm not proud of (but which I've definitely learned in large part thanks to this website, haha).

I pronounce it Ay-da, but I’m American. Ah-da sounds nice but I think most Americans would use the Ay sound. I understand name snobbery. I cringe at the names my husband has listed for girls and feel validated in my snobbery by this website. However, after working in child protection services for several years the bar is low for me when it is not dealing with my future children! (You didn’t name your child after liquor, great!) I can see that the Adelyn pronunciation is viewed as a cheapening of a classic name.

I’m American too but read the name before I heard it and was disappointed by its actual pronunciation. :)
