[Opinions] Myrna and her family
Someone posted Myrna in their top names for January, which made me think of my late Aunt Myrna. I ended up locating her obituary with the power of Google, and in the rundown of everybody in her immediate family I came up with a group of people with some pretty delightful names. (Her husband was the one related to me, so a couple of these people I only met at her funeral.) She had been born in 1940. Anyway, here are her parents and siblings (the mother was the only one whose middle name was given):Thomas
Luella Myrtle
&
Lila (I believe this is pronounced LIE-lah)
Dolores
Grace
Luella
Judy (don't know if it's short for Judith or not)
Myrna
Joseph
LeRoy
Thomas
DennisThomas & Dennis were both mentioned as having predeceased my aunt, so I don't actually know where they were in the birth order. And it seems like the actress Myrna Loy greatly contributed to the spike in her name's popularity in the late 30s / early 40s. But do you think the name Myrna could come back at all?***Please rate my personal name lists:www.behindthename.com/pnl/69381

I used to assume that Myrna was a Jewish name: I had a friend at school who was a Jewish Myrna (she used Miriam as her Hebrew name) and I'd never seen it anywhere else. I was astonished to find it was Irish! I don't think it was ever popular enough to have made people tired of it. If Myrna Loy, of whom I know nothing, could make it popular in the 1930s-1940s, then someone else could probably do the same. I don't enjoy the er- sound (Bertha, Myrtle) but others might.

Myrna is an okay name, but I don't think it will ever make a comeback. It sounds a little harsh and it's pretty archaic.
