I love both
Judith and
Judy. I think of the White
Christmas character, and I love the way they feel as I say them. This name spent a long time in the top spot on my list.
The only thing that holds me back from actually using it is that I go back and forth about its appropriateness. I know non-Jewish people have used it for a long time and that it’s moved beyond its original meaning for most people. But I study names and their origins. I can’t plead ignorance or claim that meanings suddenly don’t matter.
I guess what I’d like to see is for lots and lots of people who aren’t me to start using it again. People who don’t have my hang-ups and who can just enjoy it.
Patty is not a favourite. While
Judy feels ripe for a comeback,
Patty still feels dated somehow. Plus it reminds me of the disc-like food shape. Hamburger patty, peppermint patty, etc. I could see
Judith with
Alexandra (
Judy and
Sandy)
Beatrix (
Judy and
Trixie)
Eleanor (
Judy and
Nora)
Evelyn (
Judy and
Evie)
Lydia (
Judy and
Lydie)
Margaret (
Judy and
Peggy)
Penelope (
Judy and
Penny)
Rosemary (
Judy and
Rosie)
Verbena (
Judy and Beanie)
