For a while, everything seemed to be peaceful: Holly and Thomas continued to successfully raise Coline (who is proving to be a talented equestrienne), Thomas started dating a woman who gets on with Coline (although she works for a rival bank), and Rhea moved with August to Oxford, where he works for an engineering firm and she pursued her studies in art history, before starting work on her first book on the subject. Then it came out that Claire was carrying on an affair with a marketing manager some fifteen years her junior. Francesco and Claire fought a lengthy battle in court to divide their considerable assets, both sides backed by expensive lawyers. Once the dust settled, Claire decided to move with her new boyfriend to the south of France, where her parents were originally from and where she could enjoy the sun while taking a more backseat role in her fashion brand. For his part, Francesco moved a girlfriend into his London home fairly quickly: a Swiss friend of the family, never married, who often went skiing with them in the school holidays when Thomas and Rhea were young.
