Fits right into this group: Evan, Derek, Jesse, Adam, Devin, Eric, Owen, Andrew, Aaron, Alex, Nathan, Zach, Ben, Nick, Joshua, Justin, Stefan...
Those are boys I knew in elementary school in the 90s. It seems like it'd be more of a dad name now. It doesn't sound bad, though - not quite as bland seeming to me as Ryan or Ian.
It's fine for a girl (like Devin, Dylan, Reese, Jesse) but not particularly interesting or likable. I'd rather see Eve, Evangeline, Yvonne, Evelyn, Ivanna, Evren, Evadne for a girl unless Evan's an honoring name. There's so many similar girl names that I don't really see the point of it - or it might come across as a lazy choice. But, theoretically I think I prefer Evan to Heaven.
