YEAR 21 Ender and Gareth have talked about whether they each want kids, but are in no way near the point in their relationship, careers, or lives to want them yet. Ender gets in a big fight his little brother Justus, who has just started college nearby. He’s partying too much, has nearly run-in with the cops a couple of because of it, and Ender is afraid he is becoming alcoholic. Justus doesn’t want to listen to Ender’s advice “for the millionth time” to focus more on school and make some healthier friends, and so Justus stops speaking to Ender.
YEAR 22 Ender’s aged pet rabbit Merlin passed away over the winter. He decides to get another pet and adopts a young Russian Blue cat who was the last of his litter left at the rescue center. Keeping with the Arthurian name trend that seems to have found him (with Merlin and Gareth), he names the new kitty Newt is loving and not a picky eater (he’s been known to like toast and the occasional gravel). He’s not the best hunter, but is a good climber, frequently sitting on top of the fridge. Newt only drinks from the opposite side of the water bowl, resulting in a wet chin, loves knocking things off shelves, and never buries his poop, ever. Ender is once again enchanted. YEAR 23Gareth proposes to Ender and he accepts!
YEAR 24Well, this is awkward. Ender receives a letter from a certain clever and annoyingly-almost-flirtatious-yet still-somehow-very-professional co-worker he was pretty sure he didn’t actually sleep with at their recent out of town work conference (he’s taken an office job to pay the bills while he keeps making art) – conferences, am I right? – telling him that she’s pregnant and she’s 99% sure it’s his. She would like to keep the baby and is asking if he wants to be involved in his child’s life. This couldn’t have come at a worse time for Ender and Gareth, who have started planning their wedding. Needless to say, that’s on a bit of a pause while they figure out if they’re even staying together. Ender doesn’t want to shirk his responsibilities or miss out on getting to know this child if it is his, wild surprise or not. Two weeks later, she calls Ender tell him that the results of the paternity test came back and he’s not the father (it’s her cousin’s boyfriend’s who she’s always been in love with, and who shared a blissful time of passion with her in the pool house two months ago, declared his love for her too and now they’re going to get married – oops!). Gareth’s still a miffed that Ender even thought it might’ve been his baby and was making eyes at his co-worker so we’ll see about the wedding.
YEAR 25 Ender quits his office job (time get away from that co-worker to show Gareth he’s serious about their relationship) and throws himself into developing his portfolio to hopefully get a gallery show and become the full-time artist he’s always dreamed of being.
YEAR 26 Ender and Gareth get married!The two gents got some counseling and are working on ongoing trust. They did solidify that they love each other, share the same goals, and want to continue their lives together. The whole family came and took part. Ender asked Justus to be his best man and the two brothers finally reconciled (a few extra years for Justus to realize that Ender was right, just trying to help him out of love, and that he was just being prideful helped things along). Maeve and Willow sang a duet at the reception, Alex was a groomsman, Aleyna was the perfect flower girl, and Nova even flew over from Italy to join in the celebration.
YEAR 27 There is a bad storm and it damages the apartment building that Ender and Gabriel live in. Thankfully everyone (including Newt) are safe. They all stay with Maeve during the repair work and are decide this is the perfect to buy a condo or house instead of move back into their old place.
YEAR 28 Ender finally books his own art show! It’s well received by critics and he sells several works, which set him up to continue doing what he loves most with his career.
YEAR 29 Ender finds out a devastating secret. Amina has cancer that appears to be progressing, but hasn’t told anyone else and isn’t sure she’s going to. Ender doesn’t know what to think or feel, he’s just very sad right now but wants to be supportive for his mom.
YEAR 30 Ender becomes a vegetarian.
