My primary association is with Malia Obama.
As a white American of European descent, I can in no way use a name like this, particularly with the increasingly vocal concerns of Native Hawaiians regarding land rights and uses and broader conversation regarding cultural appropriation.
That said, I think it's rather pretty. I actually always thought Malia Obama's name, vowel-heavy though it may be, was very pretty and flowed very well (moreso than Sasha Obama).

It is a top 50 name in Germany and several other countries.
I didn't know it was Hawaiian, but it can also come from Amalia.
