It was my favorite guy name for a long time. Then I learned that people think it's unisex. I was mildly traumatized, as one always is (joke).
I still think it comes off a little bit 70s/80s-style 'mannish' as a gal name, sort of like
Robin and
Casey. I still like it as a guy name.
But I'm getting accustomed to it I guess, since there is really no reason a tree name can't be unisex.
I'll never really like it for a gal, I just don't like the sound for gal names - it's like
Joan and
Sloan.
So I'd lean towards Rowenna (I agree with
Mirèio, I think it sounds nicer than
Rowena - and also more similar to
Rowan) instead. But if you like the unisex vibe
Rowan is better than
Rowanne.
