[Opinions] Re: Josiah, Japheth & Joachim
Not a fan of Josiah... A friend in school had a younger brother called Joss, poor kid was always correcting people calling him Josh, and tbh I'm not sure where Joss came from anyway, it did sound a bit like Josh said wrong. Josiah is just too heavily biblical for me, UK based and unusual Bible names are so rare here, a lot of those -iah names just don't get used and I can never get used to them.
Japheth... worked with a guy called this for a couple of years. He seemed lovely whenever we crossed paths, I still have NO idea how to say his name, every time I tried I got corrected. It wasn't just me, he ended up going by Jay and I ended up feeling terrible. I find this name impossible to say.
I've also come across Joachim the Polish/German/Nordic/Germanic?? way. With a 'y' basically. It sounds wrong to me with an English 'j', I've only heard it said that way as the 'wrong way' to say the name only to be corrected to a 'y' pronunciation. It's ok, I'm not a fan but I've come across it quite a bit.
