To me it sound very pretentious and I feel like it is a little bit too much to live up to.

I'm surprised Drake, a jewish (or at least jewish born) man , picked Adonis, a greek idol of canaanite origin, as his firstborn's name. It's not so bad as a middle name, but it's not easy to live up to such a name.

I like the sound and I’ve actually known 2 before. Neither of them were sculpted by god. Just playing.
On a serious, ditto what some other users said. I like the sound and I think it’s handsome but it is definitely like Zeus or maybe Beau. But I find Beau a little more humble and playful. Zeus is a bit stoic, no nonsense at all. Adonis is just cool, but I wouldn’t use it, seems like a lot to live up to. I like the idea of Adonis Raymond.

To my understanding, it's influenced somewhat by religious usage of Adonai among Latinos.
Other than that, it reminds me of Dante and Paris as like classical but cliche-romantic...except more superficial (the wordiness of it "what an Adonis" - Venus is similar). The sound is pretty nice, though.

I pretty much agree with Roxstar ... it's too much of an idiom and that makes it come off much worse than Beau (which should be worse, but isn't, because it's fairly common as a guy's name). It seems like Atlas, but more embarrassing.
If, say, Adonis and Beau usage were switched up and the idiom wasn't the only thing about it, I would probably think it's fine, just kinda boring. Because the sounds in it are kinda smooth and flat, to me. It's ... Don.

With luck he hasn't got a sister named Aphrodite. Or Venus. I think it's far too much to live up to, and why would anyone want to?

It's embarrassingly boastful. Adonis isn't just the name of a mythological character, it's become a synonym for a very handsome young man. It feels like a name a male stripper might give himself. And if an Adonis grows up to be homely, well, everytime anyone who knows their mythology hears him introduced, they'll know the joke even if they don't say anything.
