[Opinions] Tania
Yesterday, while sitting in a waiting room, I spoke to a very chatty and rather bubbly woman around my age named Tania.🙂 I assumed 'Tanya' right away after she told me her name, as that's the version I'm so accustomed to seeing, but when I saw it written down in a sign-in sheet, it was indeed Tania.
What are your thoughts on the name in general and do you prefer one variant over the other? I know there's also Tonya.
I'm slightly partial to Tanya, but Tania is certainly refreshing.

I actually love this version.
I was a huge fan of Tania, Hania, and Dania for a while.
I much prefer it to the "y" versions.
However, people often stress the second syllable when spelled with an "i" so that stinks.

It means "cheap" in my native language.
Isnt it "inexpensive" in Polish? My mom is Polish so I asked.
It's both – they're synonyms.
Not that I know of. It's quite an unusual name, I've never met one. Tatianka would be most intuitive – but that wouldn't work if she was over 10.
In Polish, right? That's hilarious!
Yes!
Typically 70's name here in Germany, mostly spelled Tanja & pronounced TUNN-ya.
Can't say I like it that much, especially for the long list of similar names as Anja, Mirja, Monja, Lenja, Nadja, frNinja, Ronja, Sonja, Svenja

I feel like I should like it because I like Sonia / Sonya and Talia / Talya, but...I don't really. I don't think I have ever met a Tania (any spelling) either, which is strange (it was in the top 100 for a while and in the 1000 for 50+ years) considering all the weird names I've encountered. I think it could be cool to hear a kid called that maybe.

I like Tania / Tanya but it's kinda been wrecked for me by people who pronounce it as TAN-ya, as in "I'll tan ya' hide".
I had a good friend as a child who was named Tonia, pronounced tahn-ya. I think she might be the reason I like it? It seems fun and quirky to me, like her.
I probably would not choose the spelling Tonia, because I would not want it pronounced TOE-nya, but I do like it.
I like Tania a little more than Tanya.
