I had a pet bird named Wheezy, named after the cartoon dragon tales. We named her that because she wheezed when she chirped. Turned out it was an illness and she died.

I don't understand why. Wheezy or Wheeze doesn't make much sense and why would anyone want to be called that? It's not a pleasant sound.

A very bad spelling. This is normally spelled Weezie or Weezy and sticking an "h" into it gives it a silly meaning.

Makes me think of someone with asthma.

There was a super grumpy character in Steel Magnolias called Ouisa (edit: Ouiser), and she's great. Wheezy isn't as nice a spelling, but Ouisie would be cute!

Yes I was thinking of steel magnolias

Ooh, Ouisie looks very sophisticated! Imo Wheezy looks more affectionate, but both spellings are nice.

If it’s a playful nickname, I’m okay with it. It’s kind of cute.

we're movin' on up ...To the East Side! We finally got a piece of the pie!"The Jeffersons" was a very popular TV show in the 1980s; it was a spin-off of the earlier "All In the Family" show, with the Jefferson family being the black neighbors of the Bunkers. Mrs. Jefferson was named Louise, and her husband George called her Wheezy. It's kind of cute, but definitely tied closely to the show. And also calls to mind wheezing and heavy breathing.

No, her husband called her Weezie. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Louise_JeffersonBefore this thread I have never seen anyone put an "h" into this pet form for Louise. It is normally spelled Weezie or Weezy. And as someone who still pronounces "wh" differently from "w", these are not even the same forms to me. Even for those who never pronounce the "h" in "wh" words, spelling it this way is a bad idea. Who wants to have a nickname that can be interpreted as having been given because you wheeze a lot?

Dear lord, it sounds like the name of an ancient, trembling little dog LOL

Dreadful. IRL, i knew an Eloise, the youngest of four sisters, whose family nn was Wheezy. She didn't seem to mind, but I did!
