William - Bill (Bill is not too bad, but I'm not a fan either)
Edward - Ed (True. Edward sounds good, Ed sounds like idiotic)
Richard - Dick (Do I even need to say that I agree?)
James - Jim (I've never liked Jim)
Charles - Chuck (Eygh. Chuck has always made me think of dried beef)
Frederick - Fred (I think Fred is OK, much better than 'Rick')Katherine - Kathy (No, I like Kathy as a nickname for Katherine)
Isabelle - Bella (I disagree. I think Bella is a gorgeous name on its own so I like it as a nickname as well)
Olivia - Livvy (I agree. Livvy is awful)
Penelope - Penny (I like Penny. I'd never even considred it as a full name, but it makes a very cute nickname. If I named my daughter Penelope, I'd call her Penny sometimes)
Rebecca - Becky (True. I love Rebecca, but Becky doesn't sound good)
Susannah - Sukie (Dislike Sukie, too.)

William - Bill ~ prefer William, but don't hate Bill
Edward - Ed ~ Ed's okay, but Edward's better
Richard - Dick ~ love Dick, I hear it and think of a cute 19th century cockney boy
James - Jim ~ very much agree with you
Charles - Chuck ~ see above
Frederick - Fred ~ see above againKatherine - Kathy ~ I think of my great-aunt Kathy, not exactly what I want to think of
Isabelle - Bella ~ neutral
Olivia - Livvy ~ neutral
Penelope - Penny ~ hate Penny
Rebecca - Becky ~ I don't especially like either name, but Becky's much worse
Susannah - Sukie ~ AGREE!!!I also dislike the nickname Rae from Rachel, Sadie from Sarah (how do they get Sadie anyway?), Tori from Victoria (like the sound, but it reminds me of the political party), LuLu from Louisa, and Madge from Margaret.

I like Sukie . . . :o(I like Sukie! I think it's rather sweet. I also like Cathy. But that's it - the rest I think are spot-on.

I love Sukey, but I like it spelled this way.
Livvy is cute. I agree with the rest, though Ed, Fred, and Kathy (only on a very little girl) are growing on me.

William - Bill: Bill only works on certain people. I don't like it much.
Edward - Ed: Well, it's ok, but I like Eddie much better - Ed lacks personality.
Richard - Dick: If Dick wasn't what it is, I'd really like it. I think it's cool on older people whose naming predates the common acceptance of the word, like Dick Button.
James - Jim: Jimmy is okay, but I agree this one is not great. James is too stuffy alone though - like Karen said. I like Jamie.
Charles - Chuck: Only on certain men.
Frederick - Fred: I like Fred!Katherine - Kathy: It's not bad at all.
Isabelle - Bella: Better than Izzy! Bella is nice.
Olivia - Livvy: Ugh. Yeah this is awful. It reminds me of the word livid.
Penelope - Penny: Penny's cute.
Rebecca - Becky: I don't like Becky either.
Susannah - Sukie: I agree, this is lame, synthetic. Susie is much nicer. I also don't like:
Luke for Lucas
Ellie for anything
Emmy for anything

Ouchies...(m)These are some of my favourite names! I like a lot of those nicknames--they make the names much more approachable. In particular, I love Ed, Jim (the only way I'd ever use James), Fred, Kathy (LOVE this!), Livvy (but spelled Livvie), Penny, Becky, and Sukie (as Sukey).Nicknames I don't like are the cutesy ones that have popped up again as of late. I don't like Will or Jamey (though I like Jay). I also don't like Andy, Bella (the sound a frog makes), or Danny (SO whiney in comparison to Dan!).Array

I don't think any are awful. I may not like all of them but I don't think they are awful. (Well maybe Dick but I know two older men who go by Dick).

William - Bill-agree w/ you here, I love the nns Liam and Will and love William by itself just cannot stand Bill.
Edward - Ed-again agree, Ed reminds me of the talking horse a bit too much dated
Richard - Dick -can't stand this it's horrible, Rick isn't all that much better
James - Jim -don't get where Jim comes from and it's dated and dull
Charles - Chuck -yup agree with you here Chuck sounds like good old frat buddy
Frederick - Fred same. I actually really like the name Frederick but wouldn't call my future son that because of the Fred nn bound to come up
Katherine - Kathy sounds dated and tired this nn needs to die. If I'd ever use Catherine, I'd be spelled that way, but then you run into Cathy or Caty though Kat is a great nn for the K spelling.
Isabelle - Bella this drives me insane. I hate that added cutsy bella attached to names especially to Isabel which I think is so classic and pretty
Olivia - Livvy not so bad
Penelope - Penny yup penny sounds a bit simple and plain to me
Rebecca - Becky -becky just sounds harsh and unnatural in my mouth. I really don't like it. Becca is much softer and much prettier.

I dislike Bill, Dick (simply horrible, think of the association!) and Chuck (makes me say Chuck the chubby all the time). I have nothing against Ed or Ted, but I just prefer Ned for an Edward. The same goesto Jim - James is so much better on its own, and you can still call him Jamie when he's young.I don't like Kathy because of the K, but I find cathy particularly sweet. Livvy and becky are too cute for my taste, but Liv is all right. And I rather like Penny for Penelope. Penelope is just too long for a child! :-)

William - Bill -- Completely agree. William is nice enough without a nn, but I prefer Will.
Edward - Ed -- Ed just seems so dated, so I agree with that one.
Richard - Dick -- One reason I would worry about naming a child Richard (well, that and I don't particularly care for the name, anyways.)
James - Jim -- I don't care for Jim, but I don't see it as "awful".
Charles - Chuck -- ditto for Jim.
Frederick - Fred -- reminds me of Scooby-Doo. Not one of my favorites.Katherine - Kathy -- Kathy seems very dated, IMO.
Isabelle - Bella -- Actually, Bella's one of my favorite names (by itself). So I quite like it.
Olivia - Livvy -- I don't think Olivia needs a nn, but I do prefer Liv to Livvy.
Penelope - Penny -- I actually rather like Penny, but can't stand Penelope. Something about it rubs me the wrong way.
Rebecca - Becky -- Much prefer the nn Becca.
Susannah - Sukie -- Just don't care for it.
