1. The Beatles (early 1960s onward)

2. Joy Division (mid 1970s onward)

post-punk and new wave defining, groundbreaking band, which created a dark, atmospheric form of youthful rock, out of the ashes of traditional punk.

3. The Smiths

formed in 1982, the Smiths, headed by Morrissey, fused different forms of punk and pop, creating a unique sound that paved the way for many bands to come, and nurturing the british indie scene.

4. Pearl Jam (early 1990s onward)

This Grunge band might just seem like aging rockstars, but without Pearl Jam, Grunge wouldn't have been as big of a sensation as it is today.

5. King Gizzard and the Lizard Wizard

this Asutralian band is as weird as its playful name, drawing influences from heavy Metal, indie rock, and garage, to create a uniquely psychedelic sound.
