I think of the singer Janelle Monae, so I have positive associations with it.

While I do prefer Jane its still nice.

One of my best friend's names, though she spells it Jenelle. I prefer it that way because Aside from Jane, the Jan- prefixed names don't appeal to me as much as the Jen- or Jean- names. Janet is notorious to me, not totally ugly but definitely not cute. *sorry great grandma!* I think Jenelle looks more sleak and classy. Janelle looks a bit more frumpy.

I met a few, but it was in preschool or elementary school. I've never met any as an adult and am unsure how it ages. Perhaps this is why I associate make-believe and pettiness.

It sounds pleasant to me but also easily dated, in the same type of way as Janine, Jeanette, Mozelle, Vernelle. I'd guess people who like it more think of Jane and Michelle.

I don't care for -elle endings. But I like Janel.
I like it more than Janet. I have negative associations from a Janet I knew, plus RHPS. Jackson is a fairly positive association.
Janel was the name of the first person I made friends with at school, in pre-kindergarten. Didn't end up liking her a lot, but still liked her name. I also met a Janelle who'd be about 18 now, and it was surprising on her, but not unappealing.

I absolutely love the name Janelle, and I don’t understand anyone who doesn’t. I think it’s very stately and fashionable, all while not being overused. I also love the spelling Janell for the name Janelle.

There’s a great many worse names!

It’s old-fashioned but not yet at the comeback point, so I mostly see it on people my age (40s) or older. I went to school with several girls named Janelle and Jenelle.

I like it. Maybe it’s the association with it, but the only Janelle I have ever known is extremely sweet and fun to be around.
I might actually use it, if I was being forced to use a girls J name.

Janelle is kinda nice. Almost like a fun alternative to Jane.
