Michelangelo is a bit too much for me. Angelo, on the other hand,is unique but people will know how to spell it and say it. Micheal or Michel are also good alternatives, but maybe too common for what you are looking for

I feel like I have met one in passing, or maybe it was a Michelangela.
It doesn't seem like it'd be worse than the Mario Kart association with Mario. I think Mario is cool IRL.
It's just a bit dramatic/formal seeming like Aurelius, Maximilian, Jean-Baptiste. That, or Italian sounding like Salvatore, Orlando, Leonardo.

Too turtley and too over the top Renaissance artist-y. Would be awkward if he turned out to be a dull and talentless person.

It's kind of like how people might sarcastically call someone Einstein when that person has done or said something sstupid. You might call some poor fool who can't even make the ends of a circle meet when they draw Michelangelo.

Well hardly anyone is called Michelangelo in Italy these days, it would be considered a slightly ridiculous name. Likewise Dante. Not Leonardo though, I guess it’s got more use?

Even though the turtle is named after the artist, the name is just too one-off and distinctive. I like both Michael and Angelo, and I think Michael Angelo would make a handsome combo, but the full name Michelangelo is just too much.
