What do you think of the name Deborah?

Deborah is one of those names that is outdated to some, but I like it and think it would be a nice name for a girl these days.

My mothers name is Debra and she goes by Deb.

I totally dislike it for a young girl. I only see older people with that name.

I know a 13 yr old girl at my school named Deborah. She is a tiny little blonde haired sporty pixie-ish girl so I get that image of the name! She goes by Debbie most of the time though. I think it is usable...not something I would use but very refreshing.

Just out of curiosity, how do you prn it? Most Deborahs I know prn it DEB-o-rah, but I know of a few instances where it's prn deh-BOR-ah (also know a Devorah & she puts the accent on the middle syllable, too). I'm not jumping-up-and-down excited about the name, but I don't despise it, either. I think it would work well in this generation & actually stand out (in a good way).

I am not sure which pronunciation I like better; if I were to choose right now I would probably go with the first one.

I do think it is outdated but it is a very simple name and it can grow on me.

I like Deborah in itself, but not the NN Debbie, as I know many of them. It was quite popular in my generation. I still think it's useable.

The nickname Debbie is not my style either. I happen to like the name Deborah best in the full form and with the "traditional" spelling; I also think that the name sounds less dated that way.

My favorite spelling is Deborah, too. I knew a lot of Debras, and a woman I used to work with spelled it Debrah. I suppose Dora or Dorie would be an acceptable NN, if you planned on using one.
