I asked about Jolene and a few people mentioned the Dolly Parton song, which I had not heard before! Soooo I had to listen to it! It’s a beautiful and powerful song and I think it. makes the name Jolene better, and it’s stuck in my head! Wdyt of the name Dolly?

For some reason I like Doll as a nickname but not Dolly. I guess it's because dolly is a kiddy name for a doll, so it sounds even more childish.

I like this name. I have good associations with it due to a very memorable former member of this forum, actually!

It's interesting that I don't find this name silly or childish, really. I see it the same way as something like Holly, Kelly, Penny, Bonnie or Lily. It's sweet, sure, but not overly cutesy.

I think it's sweet as a nickname. I like the idea of Gwendolen "Dolly".

Dolly is one of my favs! I wouldn’t use though as I know I would have hated being named Dolly myself, so nickname it is!
Dorothea is my fav long name also Dorothy, Dolores, Dorinda, Isadora, Dulcinea…
