It does seem that -dy / -die is a common suffix in English nicknames. Other examples include
Sadie
(
Sarah
), Cuddy (
Cuthbert
), Caddie (
Caroline
),
Liddy
(
Elizabeth
), Sudie (
Susan
) and Maidie (
Mary
).
