[Opinions] Re: Veronica nn. Vera

When she and I were kids, I knew a Veronica who, with her parents, fought unsuccessfully against the world, which insisted on calling her by a variety of nns instead of her rather large fn. They tried Vera, Ronnie and I think Nicky or perhaps Nica. It isn't a name I'm particularly attracted to, and since I know a Greek Vera who pronounces it VERa, like the first syllable of 'very' plus an a, instead of the way I'm used to in English, where VER rhymes with ear, Vera has problems for me as well. As names, they are both OK but not good enough for me to actually use.
