[Opinions] How Many Syllables
I’ve seen people say they pronounce these names with differing number of syllables. How many syllables do you typically use for each of these names?
1. Katherine
2. Violet
3. Dorothy
4. Cameron
5. Jacqueline

2 for all of them.
1. Katherine - 3 in my head, 2 in real life (but I do linger on the end of 'kath' so it's clearly Katherine and not Kathryn)
2. Violet - 2
3. Dorothy - 2, maybe 2.5, but when I add that syllable I say it more like 'DOH-er-thy' instead of 'DOR-o-thy'. I also just say 'DOR-thy'.
4. Cameron - I feel like it's 3, but it does blend into Cam-ron. I used to work with someone who was actually named just Camron.
5. Jacqueline - 3
2. Violet - 2

5. Jacqueline - 3

4. 2 sometimes 3? It sounds more feminine with 3 syllables somehow

That's interesting because the feminine spellings are two syllables!
1. Katherine - 2 syllables
2. Violet - 3 syllables
3. Dorothy - 3 syllables
4. Cameron - 2 syllables
5. Jacqueline - 3 syllables
2. Violet - 3 syllables
3. Dorothy - 3 syllables

I think they are all 3 syllables.
If I am speaking at full normal speed, I think I say them all with 2 syllables -
except Violet is more like two and a half, and Cameron is maybe 2 and a quarter (it's not quite Camron).
If I'm enunciating carefully I say them with three syllables -
except Jacqueline, that's always 2. The K-L connection might break apart a bit, but I'm not saying a third syllable

I usually pronounce them as two syllables.
As per BTN, all of the girl names can be pronounced with two or three syllables. Only Cameron is pronounced with two syllables.

Yeah, I believe BTN is wrong about Cameron because that name is commonly pronounced with three syllables too.
All of them are 2 syllables for me.

I know I'm skipping over some vowels but if I pronounced them all with three syllables, I'd be the odd one where I live.
