[Opinions] Name a kid
Hi! I’m expecting twins(boy and a girl). My husband and I have no clue about what names we even like. If you had a kid today, what would you name them?
Replies
Eik (ike) and Eila (Isla) don't like the traditional spelling versions as much but I discovered these ones which I think also have different meanings and I think were norwegian? I think they are different enough but sound good together. Eik Edward? Eila Evelyn?
Oak and River sound pretty if you are into nature names. I have heard of Cedar before Cedar and River?
Other combos would be pretty. I also don't think they need to go at all.

If I had twins (girl & boy) today they would be Ronan James and Delaney Caroline.
What I would name twins today isn't evidence. Yes, I have my preferences. But if this is a genuine query, and even if it isn't, a good start would be for each parent-to-be to write down all the names in their family and among their friends. Put a tick or a cross next to the names you have a definite opinion about. Then do the same with each other's lists. Then you'll have plenty to discuss!

You should think about what type of names you like or what style you are drawn to. Here are some categories of names and some examples.

*Note: some Traditional names are also Biblical names and vice versa
Mythological Names: Penelope, Apollo, Thor, Athena, Phoebe, Odin, Cassandra, Daphne, Arthur, Tristan, Atlas
Nature Or Word Names: Violet, Rose, Lily, Ruby, Wren, Forest, Rowan, Jasper, Orion, Zephyr, Brooke
Modern Names: Jayden, Brayden, Nevaeh, Brielle Maverick & Jett
Nicknames As First Names: Jack, Liam, Freddie, Kate, Tommy, Lena, Edie

What are your thoughts on giving kids names with two different styles if the parents have completely different tastes in names? Maybe not for twins, but for two siblings? I feel like it’s nice to let both parents have one of their favorite names used, even if the style is different.

For me, there's a fine line between different styles and disparate styles. For example, some of the names in the styles I mentioned above can be mixed. Many Biblical names can be mixed with traditional names because they can be classified as being in both categories (Mary & John). Some mythological names can be paired with other styles like Biblical (Athena & Gabriel) or Traditional (Diana & Henry). As long as the names aren't too disparate, too glaringly different, and sound like the same parents named them, the styles can be mixed. For me, the sibling names have to "gel" and work well together.
In the case of parents have completely different styles, a compromise would have to be implemented. Let's say the mother liked Modern names and the father liked Traditional. It would have to be decided by the couple how it would work. Maybe the first names could be Traditional in style and the middle names be chosen from the Modern category (or vice versa). Personally, I wouldn't mix a Jayden & Margaret or Hannah & a Maverick. They just don't sound right. They sound like they're not from the same family.
Names are very subjective and everyone has their comfort level. I prefer sibling names to have a certain cohesion. For others, it may not matter so much.

I think the same style is best, I've known families that haven't and kids have wondered why there name doesn't match
Girls: Most likely Helen Elizabeth or Helen Elizabeth Rosalie. I would also seriously consider Helena Elizabeth, Helena Rosalie, or Helena Elizabeth Rosalie. Others that aren’t Helen/Helena names I would seriously consider are Charlotte Regan, Maddalena Scarlett, Alice Evelyn Maria and Clementine Rose.
Boys: Probably William George after my grandfather, George William. His name was supposed to be William George, and he was very happy when I brought up that idea. The other name I would consider is James Ellis or James Matthew Grant.
I won’t be having kids for at least another eighteen years though, so who knows what I will like then.
