[Opinions] WDYT of these name's I'd consider naming my (hypothetical) daughter?
I loved seeing everyone's opinions on masculine names, so I thought I'd make one for feminine names! Please don't be mean to others for their opinions!Ashe - Ashe is a cute name that can fit someone no matter their age! Bonus points for not needing a nickname.
Constance - An elegant, older name. I've always liked the nickname "Connie".
Dorothea - Personally, I've always loved the sound of "theo" and "thea", and have always thought them pretty and elegant. Plus, there are so many good nicknames that could be used!
Juno - I heard this name first because of the Sabrina Carpenter song "Juno", and I thought it was such a cute name! Normally I'm not a big fan of names of the gods and goddesses of Roman and Greek mythology, but Juno, along with Minerva, are exceptions!
Liliana - Lili is a very pretty nickname, and this name is equally pretty!
Maribelle - A classic! Yes, it is a more mature name, but the nickname "Mari" feels very youthful!"
Rowan - Rowan is a young name that feels like it will age well. I also like it on boys, but it feels a tad more feminine in my opinion.
Yumi - A sweet young name that's easy to say. Bonus points for being the name of one of my favorite characters from the Nancy Drew video games!

Replies

Ashe- prefer Asha
Constance- like this name a lot
Dorothea- old lady name
Juno- sounds masculine
Liliana- tired of all Lily variations
Rowan- boys name
Yumi- never heard of this name
Ashe - It sounds masculine and the e will always be forgotten when people hear it and write it down and mispronounced when people read it with an e at the end. It feels incomplete to me.Constance "Connie" - definitely seems old Dorothea - I like the -thea part, but the Dor part makes it seem old-fashioned. I'd just go with Thea.Juno - I first associate it with the movie about teen pregnancyLiliana - very prettyMaribelle - also pretty, but I'd prefer Maribel, Belle, or MirabelRowan - I don't think it will age well. I think it's going to be pretty tied to around this time.Yumi - I wouldn't use it unless I was Japanese and living in Japan. In and English speaking country, I don't think it will be easy for people to say, maybe once they've been taught, but it looks like yummy.
Ashe - I'm personally not a fan of this name.
Constance - I think that this name is very wonderful, classic name that sounds warm to me. Though, its nickname, Connie, is a favorite of mine as a first name!
Dorothea - I like this name a lot, because Dorothy is one of my favorite names. It adds an extra flair to Dorothy that's admirable, in my opinion.
Juno - This name isn't my cup of tea, but I do appreciate it's history.
Liliana - I think that this is a pretty, elegant name, but part of me is hesitant; Lily (and all elongated forms) has been almost overused, where I am.
Maribelle - I think that this name is stunning, but I kind of struggle to pronounce it! Is it "MAR-ee-bell," or is it "Mary-bell"? Both pronunciations are wonderful, and you can't go wrong with them.
Rowan - I'm sorry, but I can only see this name as masculine; it's not my thing, personally.
Yumi - I don't care much for it in the English-speaking world, as it sounds like the word "yummy"...but, I still think it's a very beautiful name, with a graceful music. I totally appreciate it and its history, and I adore its powerful meaning!
Lily is 100% common, but I've only met one Liliana personally, and it was just a waitress at Olive Garen.
It is unfortunate how Yumi sounds like "yummy", so I'd probably use Yumiko, since I also love the name Miko.
Liliana is so gorgeous. Very romantic and elegant sounding. It's not popular in my area at all. Lily I've heard a few times, but it's nowhere as overused as Sophia and Olivia, which I hear all over the place.
Completely agreed!
Ashe is nice! Simple to pronounce and like you said, no nickname required.
Constance. Eh. I just don't like how dated it feels. I think if there was a kid named Constance in my school and they didn't go by Connie or something, they would be bullied SO badly.
Dorothea- Hey Dorothea! I associate it heavily with the Taylor Swift song. It's nice, and I like Thea as a nickname.
Juno- ahhhjskdjsk I LOVE Sabrina Carpenter sosoSO much. Juno is one of my favorite songs on the album. I really like mythological names too, but if I were named Juno I would definitely go by June.
Liliana- I knew a girl by this name in elementary school. She had great hair and I really liked her name too!
Maribelle- I prefer Marielle personally, but I like Maribelle too.
Rowan- ooh, gender-neutral name! I LOVE Rowan on a girl. Sounds like she'd be bada$$.
Yumi- I like the concept but all substitute teachers (and annoying classmates) would mispronounce it "Yummy."Overall I like your choices!! All great names.
The Taylor Swift song is sooo good! I actually found out about the name because of Fire Emblem: Three Houses, but the song made me love the name!
I love the nickname Juno!
MARIELLE IS PERFECT OMG!?
I mean, I had a substitute teacher mispronounce my name (Lucas) as "Lusas", so I'd expect any name to be mispronounced.
Ashe is a good nature name, but it still mostly sounds like a nickname.
I don't like the sound of Constance or Connie.
Dorothea is a bit better than Dorothy, which I've grown to like. Dorothea is somewhat majestic. It does have a lot of nicknames, but I don't really like any of them.
Although Juno is kind of cute, it doesn't sound particularly feminine to me. I like the Sabrina Carpenter song, but... it's very sexual and it will take me awhile to not think of the song when I hear Juno. There is also the movie called Juno about a pregnant teenaged girl. I heard it's a great movie. I wouldn't want to name my daughter anything that reminds me of virginity, sex or fertility. I feel like there's pressure in a name like that.
I like Liliana a whole lot and I love Lilly and Lillie! Not so much Lilli.
Maribelle is beautiful. I wouldn't nickname her Mari because I'm tired of Mary, which would be said the same. Perhaps I'd shorten it to Belle because it reminds me of a bell. Something musical.
Rowan is decent but I prefer it much more on boys. Owen has a softer sound, but I still wouldn't call a daughter Owen.
Yumi is a nice name, something familiar in Japan. If I were to name a child anything inside of my own language or culture, I would choose something else, though. Perhaps Rio, Shio, Kiyo, etc. because I think the sound is pretty!
I do agree that the connotations with Juno are... iffy to say the least, but people use the names Carmen, Vivian, and Samantha, despite them all having similar connotations. I'd probably just use Juno as a middle name as to not be too similar to the movie (that I forgot existed XD).
Love the nn Belle a lot as well!
I also love the name Kiyo, I just wanted to list only 8 names (... which I failed at since I mentioned Minerva...).
Ashe - It's okay. I love the idea of 'Ash-' names, but not so much in practice. The 'e' seems a bit extra, which isn't a horrible thing (I do think it looks nicer that way), but generally I don't see that as a positive. 6/10
Constance - Ah, Constance! I would never use it, but I love its personality. When I was a kid, I read 'The Mysterious Benedict Society' and the character is a positive connotation. I like the nn Connie, too. 7/10
Dorothea - It's alright. I like the style of it, but it isn't one of my favorites. I think you might like Theodosia and Timothea, which are two names I like. 8/10
Juno - I love this name so much! It's my favorite name for a girl, and if I ever have a daughter, I would give her this as a middle name. 10/10
Liliana - I don't generally like Lily names, and I don't love the cadence of it. It's alright, though. 5/10
Maribelle - Cute! I love the nickname 'Mari' 7/10
Rowan - Another name I love! I love it for both, but it's probably my favorite boy's name, and I'd use it for a son if I ever have one. My biggest point of hesitance would be the fact that 'r' can be hard for little kids to pronounce (it was for me), but otherwise, I think it's really beautiful. 10/10
Yumi - It's fine. It's cute, but not really my style in names. I don't really have any feelings for it. 6/10
Again, great taste!

Ooo Theodosia is a very pretty sounding name!
Yeah, the 'r' can definitely be difficult to pronounce, but I feel like a middle-name could suffice for a nickname.
I'm glad you like my taste in names!
I really love Constance and Dorothea, the others are fine, but Constance and Dorothea are just *chef's kiss*.
Totally agreed! They feel so elegant! A bonus for Dorothea is that I just listened to the song "dorothea" by Taylor Swift... and it's actually really good (in my opinion).
Constance is one of my absolute favorites names! I also love Dorothea and Minerva.
Constance is such a classic!
Ashe - If the 'e' is silently, then I would leave it off. I prefer it as a nick name for Ashwin, Ashwyn, Ashild, etc...
Constance - nice
Dorothea - Pretty with a nice vintage feel. Lots of cute potential nicknames.
Juno - Fun in a spikey way. Juno was not the most sympathetic goddess, but I like her name and would enjoy a good revisionist take on her mythology.
Liliana - nice
Maribelle - It sounds like a glamorous cartoon cow. It isn't awful, but it feels over the top and extra.
Rowan - very handsome
Yumi - It is a cute Japanese name, but it does sound very young. I have no idea how it would be perceived by a native Japanese speaker.
Yeah, I am slightly hesitant over Juno because of the goddess, but I feel like it's fine, since I've met people named Apollo and Aphrodite, who were possibly even worse than Juno (albeit, they are from different mythologies).
... I completely forgot about Clarabelle from the Mickey's Clubhouse series...
Yumi does feel very young now that I think about, so I'd probably use it as a nn for Yumiko.
Ashe: Don't like the e on the end, and the name Ash feelh feels rather aggressively, deliberately ambisexual.Constance: Stiff and stuffy to the point of constipation. Connie is kind of nice in a grandmotherly way.Dorothea. Also stuffy and rather sour. I like Dorothy better.Juno: Sounds like a dog's or cat's name.Liliana: It's okay, but I like Lillian better. Lilys of every stripe are a dime a dozen.Marybelle: If you wanted to use Mary, just use it and don't tack on the Belle, which dates it badly.Rowan: Again, aggressively unisex.Yumi: Easy to pronounce ... as Yummy. If you're not Japanese, leave this one alone.
I have never heard a name described as bisexual... and I love it.
I like the name Lilian too, but I knew someone named Lilyen, so I wouldn't really want to use it. Liliana is pronounced slightly differently.
Mary is just really common as a stand-alone name, so I prefer it when in a longer name.
I'm absolutely astonished at how many people say the name Yumi as "Yummy", since I grew up knowing the name...
Ashe- I don't really like it.
Constance- it's okay.
Dorothea- it's okay.
Juno- I don't like it.
Liliana- nice name, 7/10.
Maribelle- it's okay, but I like the nicknames Mari.
Rowan- it feels masculine to me. But it's nice.
Yumi- eh.

I do agree that Rowan sounds slightly masculine, but I've always liked slightly masculine girl names and vice versa.
I'd prefer Ashe as a nn for Ashley; combustion products just don't appeal to me.
Constance is fine.
Dorothea is very nice; I was at school with a Dorothea who never had a nn, so it can be done!
Juno and Minerva are absolutely not to my taste at all.
Liliana is very ornate; I prefer Lilian, but not enough to use.
Maribelle is also frilly. Maribel is calmer and quieter.
Rowan is strictly masculine; Rowena is pleasant.
Yumi is not easy to say. I checked on this site; please do the same. Apart from that, the meanings are confusing, though that wouldn't matter because on a non-Japanese person it will inevitably be thought to sound like Yummy, which is unfortunate.
My aunt is named Ashley, so I don't really think I would use it for a nickname for Ashley.
Ooo I really do like the spelling Maribel!
I forgot about the name Rowena! I remember reading it in the Harry Potter books and thinking it sounded lovely.
I'm very surprised at how many people thought it was pronounced "Yummy"...

Ashe: I like it, but I prefer Ash for a boy or Asha for a girl.
Constance: I like this, especially as a middle name. Connie is cute although it feels older to me.
Dorothea: It's got a quirky vintage feel, I also prefer this one as a middle name but I do like all the nickname options when it's a first name.
Juno: I prefer Minerva but I do think Juno is more manageable since it's short and snappy and has nicknames like June and Junie. It's a good mix between ancient mythology and a more modern sound.
Liliana: It's cute and pretty. I feel like it's overused but I don't actually know any so maybe it's not. Lili, Lily, Liana, Lilia, Ana, Lana, Lil, Lia... lots of nicknames.
Maribelle: It's alright. I don't think this is one of the more mature ones, I think Constance and Dorothea are the most mature. The only reason I'm "meh" on this name is that I prefer Mirabel and Mirabelle.
Rowan: I would use this one!
Yumi: I like it, I think of Yumi and the Nightmare Painter.
I totally love the name Mirabelle, but I feel it would be too associated with the Disney character of the same name.
I just looked up what Yumi and the Nightmare Painter is, and I totally want to read it now!
Ashe - Would be a great middle name and it's a nature name via the ash tree
Constance and Dorothea would be a nice sibset.
Liliana - I usually don't like "iana" names because they're frilly, but I like this one.
Juno is OK but I don't care for Yumi.
My favorites are Maribelle and Rowan. Rowan is the name of a county in North Carolina and a street where I live. It's pronounced "row - ann" so it sounds feminine to me.
I totally agree that Constance and Dorothea would be a nice sibset!
I like Lilliana and Rowan (only for boys)
