In Francophone countries it’s a 60+ woman’s name.
It's a white "grandma" name in my city.
I know one white Monique who's probably your age. The rest have been black. It's definitely not in style any more, so I would expect any Monique, black or white, to be my age or older.
In Europe it’s mainly a “white” name, but to be honest I don’t think we see things as “black or white” in Europe as they seem to be in the USA.
Monique is a beautiful name, and it doesn't matter what your racial background is to use it. I personally have met women named Monique that were white, black, and Hispanic. Given that Monique is a name of French origin, there have been more Caucasian women with the name throughout history, anyway.
In South Africa we would expect a Monique to be a white Afrikaans speaker. In the 17th century the king of France made Catholicism the official State religion, and Protestants immediately felt threatened. The Dutch, predominantly Protestant, had colonised what is now South Africa and so there was a safe place for the Protestant French to emigrate to. They brought with them their skill at wine-making, as well as their surnames (like De Villiers, Du Toit, Rousseau etc) and given names (like Pierre, Jacques, Monique, Yvonne etc).
Monique is a beautiful French name.In the Middle Ages, it was popular among French royalty and aristocracy.
