Help[Opinions] Nickname Help
A while ago, while I was playing soccer at school, some friends of mine were trying to come up with a nickname for me. My name is Bethanie (or Bethany... I alternate between the two) and I strongly dislike being called Beth, which made it hard for them to come up with nicknames. They only came up with Beth-Beth, which they knew I wouldn't like.
I thought about it, and remembering I love the name Sunny, I thought "Would Sunny make a good nickname for Bethanie?" Eventhough the "s" and "th" sounds are quite far apart, it would make it easier for my international friends who can't say the "th" sound in my name. Plus Sunny makes me sound optimistic, and I like that.
So my question is "Would Sunny be okay as a nickname for Bethanie?" TIA!

Sunny would make a good nickname for YOU - I don't think it's a good short form of your name, Bethany, but as a nickname for you it's perfect. IMO nicknames don't need to be clear short forms of a person's name to be good - I just don't like it when they are really artificially based on the person's name. Like, if you wanted to be called Thanee, I'd say, Ugh. But Sunny, that's a good nick in itself.

I agree with some of the previous comments, in that a nickname doesn't have to come directly from your name; it often does, but it often doesn't.

My name it Bethany too. It doesn't seem like there are many options for nicknames other then Beth or Bethy. What about Annie? Idk. Just an idea.

i think it's a cute nn. better than beth-beth!
i think it would be alright, if you don't mind being called that.i know some people ho have really weird, (and sometimes awful) nns. for example, there's a girl i know called Michelle, and everyone calls her F. i dunno why. apparently it's a long story. then there's Laura, who's refered to as Chook-o.
also, my uncle's name is Preben, and no one could get the pn right! so he made a nickname for himself, which was PK. as in the chewing gum brand. don't as me. i don't know how he came up with it, so who cares! if you wanna go by Sunny, well, good for you! :)

I think Sunny's a cute nickname, and nicknames don't necessarily have to originate from your actual name - for instance, my ex's nickname for me was Gidget, after the character in the '50s movies, because I'm a girl, I'm 5'3" (to his 5'10") and I love surfing when I get the chance to do it. Likewise, another friend of mine calls me 'Brainbox', because I have a bit of a reputation as the smart one of the group.
So if you like Sunny, then by all means go for it!

My nickname was i was younger was Surf because my LN is the name of a surf brand.. plus i surfed alot.
I think nicks can be derived from the name or can be completely different eg. from friend, family etc.
My nicknames are Boo (boo boo) Bex, Alien, Surf, Mac etc. Pierre's nickname is Coco (as in Coconut). My nick name at soccer since there were two other Rebecca's (the only two other Rebecca's i know!) was Bekski because my friends figured that you had to have an 'ethnic' name with either Ski or Vic on the end so i became Beckski changed to Bekski which looks more realistic!
