It's a nice name, but I'm honestly amazed by its popularity. It doesn't seem like the sort of name that would go mainstream. It was definitely seen as a kooky, laughably old fashioned name when I was growing up, on par with Hildegard and Minerva. I wonder if most people chose it as a way to use Penny.

Completely agree! Despite being an enthusiast of the classics and of ancient names, I have trouble appreciating Penelope because I'm flummoxed and disturbed by how popular it is. It's kind of eerie...
