I've always liked Penelope, and I'm OK with Penny as a nn. In the Mary O'Hara books, My Friend Flicka and its sequels, the mother is always called Nel, and when she finally has the daughter she's always wanted, the baby is named Penelope! Which actually makes better sense, thinking of the sound of the name rather than its appearance.
