I used to find these names unappealing too - maybe it's cultural conditioning, because the word "ugly" itself has that hard G as well. As I've gotten older I find I appreciate these names more and more. They're an acquired taste I guess. They're more complex and sophisticated, and ultimately more satisfying to me. But 21 year old me would be appalled that I like the name Margaret now.
