I like both names, but I have increasingly come to view them as a bit bland.
Eric is lovely. It's also... kind of insubstantial.
I don't know that I encountered more than one person named Erica in my personal life; I encountered SEVERAL named Erika. I thought Erika was beautiful for a very long time. Nowadays I think it's lovely but almost overused in my personal circle.
I do increasingly think that the syllables and sounds here just come across as a bit bland. (I'm really into "N" sounds in names and the lack of that in both of these is striking.)
But I wouldn't hate to seek them on a child!
I don't love other variants much - Erik is fine, but I've encountered both Erick and Eriq and don't like either of those, and Ericka looks really wrong to me.
