[Opinions] Sapphira?
When you hear this name, what sort of person do you think of?
Does it bring up a specific age or ethnicity or socio-economic background?
Can you imagine a specific nn being used instead?
Would it be mispronounced a lot in English speaking countries?
Sa-PIER-a? Sap-FEAR-a?
Any other thoughts?

I think it's really beautiful, in theory, but it'll sound fancyish and pretentious and weird if I meet someone named that. Especially if it's a really normal person. It just doesn't work then. Just with someone really beautiful and fancy and all that.
For a nickname Saff or Saffy is the one I'd expect to be used. Or maybe Firey or something. I really don't know. And I really don't think it'll be mispronounced - and if so, mispronounced by who? I mean, if she says "My name is Sapphira" and pronounces it a certain way, people aren't going to say it some other way. I think. Unless they mishear.

It has such a terrible Biblical association, and has that cheap, ugly sound to it. :-/
I don't imagine it being misprounounced, though it seems people can mispronounce anything these days...

Oh, I love this same, despite the terrible Biblical connotation. (In case you don't know Sapphira and her husband Ananias were struck dead by God for lying). It was on my short list, but I've since shortened my short list & Sapphira had to go. I really don't see it being mis-pronounced, but then again, I didn't expect Noah to get mispronounced, either (he gets called Noel a lot). Some nns I like are Sara, Sira, Sari, Fire (or Firenza as it would certainly evolve in my family, lol), and Apphia (another Biblical name). Of these, Sara is my favorite, even though I dislike Sara as a full name.
edited b/c I misspelled Ananias

I think it's lovely but I'd never, ever use it because it does give of a bit of a trashy vibe. The proper pronounciation is sah-FIE-rah, but I say sah-FEER-ah.
Gosh, I want to like this one.
I love the sound of it. I love the look of it. I love sapphires the stone (my birthstone too). Honestly, I'd have it short listed myself except...
Somehow Sapphira comes across as cheap and hokey. It sounds like a stage name for a stripper or showgirl. It sounds like a name with too much ambition (like Diamond, Crystal, Princess, Yurhighness...) I don't know why Ruby, Pearl, and Opal can pull it off, but Sapphire and Diamond just sound tacky. :-/
I can't imagine not knowing how to pronounce Sapphira, but people will be prone to misprounce *anything* and as this one is unusual, it probably would receive a lot of blank looks and oral stumbles.

I have to agree as well
Sapphires are beautiful, and the name Sapphira does sound and look pretty. Still, I just can't take it seriously because it's one of those faux-fancy, faux-unique names I coul only imagine on a stripper or on a spoilt child. There's just something utterly prentious about it.

Sapphira is very nice--it has an aesthetically pleasing spelling and sound. I used to prefer Safira, hands down, but I like both spellings now.
I associate it with an absolutely gorgeous choral piece called "Someone Will Remember Us." It's a very new piece--it was "unveiled," as it were, in a choral festival held at my college last year--and the words to the song were written by the ancient poet Sappho. I'm not sure if they only used one Sapphic fragment (namely "I tell you/someone will remember us/in the future.") or several, but it's beautiful and bittersweet. :) I love it.
I see Saffy, Fia, and Fira being the most natural nicknames. Sassy, Sira, Fifi, Pippi, and Affy could all also work.

I like. It's nothing special to me, but it's pretty. I don't picture any sort of person though; I picture a dragon, because I read a book with a dragon named Sapphira once and that was the first time I heard of it.
No specific age or anything comes to mind.
I think Phira makes a cute nn, or Phirie, but that may be getting too close to the word "fear."
It would probably be pronounced correctly, because the word "sapphire" has the double P thing, too. I think only the illiterate would mispronounce it.
